Kelana Jaya MCA bonds with constituents

IT WAS a small gathering, but still noisy and laughter-filled, for the members of the Kelana Jaya MCA division in Subang Jaya recently.

The division’s members had gathered for a triple celebration of the winter solstice, Christmas and the New Year.

Division chairman Ong Chong Swen said the gathering was a yearly do started four years ago in 2008, although it was a very small gathering with only four tables.

Sweet treat: Ong serving tang yuen to guests.

By comparison, the dinner on Dec 27 saw over 100 attending from within the division as well as invited guests and supporters.

It was also a continuation of the division’s efforts to forge closer ties with the communities and residents of the Kelana Jaya parliamentary constituency.

Ong, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) parliamentary coordinator for Kelana Jaya constituency, had organised a similar luncheon for the leaders of churches and Christian fellowships based in the constituency as a “get-to-know you” gesture.

“I hope that our close relationships will continue in the new year. To my Malay and Indian friends who are attending this dinner, this is also a thank you for your help.

“You have supported the division throughout the year, helping to arrange activities and our division’s other efforts,” said Ong.

At the same time, other Kelana Jaya division leaders such as deputy chairman Lim Kok Sai and Youth chairman Lim You Hin took the opportunity to wish the guests good tidings as well as giving their own reflections on 2011.

“The year 2012 will be full of excitement, anticipation and anxiety. We will have to sweat to work towards something good for the community.”

“Everyone who went through the thick and thin will know this — that we are earnest and sincere in what we do,” said Ong.

The night wasn’t all just speeches and seriousness, as there were also lucky draws to enliven the evening while guests posed together for group photos.

And in the spirit of the winter solstice, there was a competition held among randomly selected guests to see who could make the best tang yuan, much to the amusement of onlookers
