Kelana Jaya Barisan coordinator Ong meets church leaders

IT WAS a simple “get-to-know-you” lunch and dialogue session with over 80 pastors and Christian fellowship leaders from the Kelana Jaya parliament district for Barisan Nasional coordinator Ong Chong Swen, as part of her team’s effort to reach out to the people living in the constituency.

“It was a surprise for me to find out that there are between 50 and 60 large and small churches and fellowships in Kelana Jaya. And about 80 pastors and leaders attended the dialogue, so the response is quite encouraging,” said Ong at the gathering at Lakeview Club.

“It is a chance for me to explain the scope of my role as coordinator for the Kelana Jaya parliamentary constituency.

A merry affair: Ong at the meet-and-greet session with local church leaders and elders at the Lakeview Club.

“But it is also for the church and fellowship leaders to meet each other. Because most of the time, church leaders tend to remain within their own parishes and organisations.” she added.

Ong, while interacting with her audience, spoke on her role as parliamentary coordinator and also gave a brief rundown of the extent of her area of responsibility.

“You are the pillars of the 90,000 registered voters in the Kelana Jaya parliamentary constituency,” said Ong to her audience.

In addition to the networking and dialogue, she also spoke on the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) aid. She emphasised that the forms needed to register for the aid was free, and that the people should not be tricked into paying for the forms.

“I am also offering the services of my team in assisting you in filling up the forms and collecting them to be forwarded to the Inland Revenue Board’s Income Tax department to be assessed for eligibility for the BR1M aid,” she told the crowd.

Besides the one-off BR1M aid of RM500, Ong added that there would be an additional RM200 book voucher aid available to secondary students as well as those studying in institues of higher education, both public and private.
